Yate & District Archaeology Group
Yate & District Archaeology Group or YADAG is a new archaeological group for the Yate area based at Yate & District Heritage Centre. We are already going from strength to strength with around 50 members.
The basic role of the group is to record the archaeological heritage of the Yate area in its many forms.
Our part of South Gloucestershire is blessed with a myriad of unrecorded and sometimes threatened historic sites ranging from Roman bath houses to coal mining remains.
In conjunction with the South Gloucestershire Council archaeologist, budding archaeologists will have access to state of the art equipment and receive expert training from trained personnel.
New members of YADAG are invited to take part in the following: -
- Identifying new sites
- Field Walking
- Background research in archives
- Surveying site
- Using Geo-Physics to record sites
- Helping produce exhibitions
Are there meetings?
There is a meeting around once a month at Yate & District Heritage Centre. There is a £2 admission fee to the meeting. The meetings are designed to plan future work, review current archaeological work and dispense news. There will also be lectures at some meetings on a variety of related historic subjects to our work.
Who can join?
We welcome members from all parts of the community. As soon as you join you will receive information on all the work of YADAG and can also follow activities on this website and on the events calendar on this site.
