Murray Dowding Evening

Discover the wonderful world of Murray Dowding, photographer extraordinaire, who was a renowned and prolific photographer in Sodbury who has left us with a vast collection of photographs of Yate and Sodbury from 1900 to the 1950s. James Higgs will explain the collection and demonstrate how the general public will be able to access the collection both at the Heritage Centre and generally on line

Newmans Booklet Launch

The book launch of "The Rise and Fall of Newman Industries" will take place at Yate Heritage Centre this month. for much of the 20th century Newman industries dominated the centre of Yate and its social life. A book to celebrate this fact is ong overdue.

The 2014 Yate St George Celebrations are the biggest St George event in the area with a full day's English style entertainment and activities for the whole community. There will be Morris Dancing, folk singing, brass band, storytelling, Punch and Judy, history and community stalls, St George himself and much more

World War I Centenary History Day

Yate Heritage Centre will mark  the First World War Centenary event with a major history event. visitors will be able to experience different aspects of civilian and military life during World War I with numerous demonstrators and related activities from the time. Visitors will also be to learn about life in the Great War in the Yate and Sodbury areas through our own exhibition and  discover their own links with the Great War with family and military historians.

At 10am there will be a parade between Yate Heritage Centre and Yate Shopping Centre. 10.40am First World War Centenary Service                                                                                   11am Opening of First World War Day     11.15am Westerleigh Brass Band                                       12pm First World War Storytelling            12.30pm Westerleigh Brass Band                                1pm First World War Songs                        1.30pm First World War Storyteller                            2pm Royal British Legion Choir,                 2.30pm First World War Songs                                    3pm First World War Storytelling.  

St Mary's Church will also host World War I related activities and displays to mark  the display.

Admission free. Funded and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Yate Town Council and South Gloucestershire Council and Heidelberg Cement.

Yate International Festival

Yate International Festival 2014 once again hosts the best in international entertainment in the Yate and South Gloucestershire areas. This unique events bring together different cultures and traditional for a wonderful community event. There will be a wide range of Indian, Chinese, English and European performances, demonstrations, activities and food throughout the day.

First World War History Day

Yate Heritage Centre marks the Centenary year Remembrance Sunday with a special First World War History Day.

Acclaimed demonstrators Guarderobe will be revealing the background to local soldiers and to women working in industry, with hands on activities for everyone. There will also be a the First World War exhibition and the vast collection of WWI images to see over the course of the day.

Tommy Atkins Theatre

Experience the First World through a moving performance looking at the experiences of one Gloucestershire family. Spaniel in the Works Theatre bring their acclaimed play on the story of a British Tommy and a Canary Girl during the Great War to Yate Heritage Centre.

Performances start at 1.30pm and 3.30pm and last about 75 minutes.

Admission £3.50 or £2.50 concessions for Friends of YHC.To guarantee a place please book. Suitable for adults and children over 8. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by Yate and South Gloucestershire Councils.
