Christmas Carol Evening

Yate Heritage Centre and St Mary's Church welcome everyone to take part in our annual Christmas Carol evening by St Mary's Green between the Heritage Centre and St Mary's Church. Singers can then process to the Heritage Centre for mince pies and mulled wine. Visitors are invited to attend the Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary's Church from 5pm onwards. Yate Twinning Association and St Mary's School will also be participating with sme solo performances from St Mary's School Choir.

Family History Day

Family Historians from Yate Heritage Centre will once again be on hand to answer all manner of your family history enquiries. Whether you are an experienced family historian or a beginner we will aim to assist you in your endeavours. This is a free, drop in event.

St George Celebrations 2017

Yate & District Heritage Centre proudly presents our 2017 St George Celebrations. Our St George event will feature the best of English style entertainment including Morris Dancing, mumming, brass bands, folk, music hall, historic re-enactors, traditional crafts, workshops, refreshments, community stalls and much more.

Here come the Romans

The Roman are Coming. Yate Heritage Centre presents a full day of Roman history and archaeology. There will be numerous demonstrators on St Mary's Green bringing to life the Roman period. There will be demonstrations of Roman Military life and combat from the earlier and later Roman period, a Roman doctor, Roman food and textiles and the chance to discover and  make Roman tiles and bricks. There will be a number of activities with a Roman theme including building a Roman arch, creating a mosaic, trying Roman numerals and much more. You can find out about the Romans in the Yate area and sample Roman entertainment. There will be Roman lyre performances Midday and 2pm and storytelling 1pm and 3pm on the hour. A wonderful day.

Yate International Festival 2017

Yate International Festival promises to be as popular as ever with a host of exciting new acts and familiar favourites grace the festival. There will a range of Indian, Chinese, English, Irish and Continental European music, dance, theatre and activities throughout the day plus family workshops, international and local food, stalls and much more. event funded by Tesco Bags for Life plus Yate and South Gloucestershire Councils are part funding the event.

Christmas Carols on the Green

Join the local community for a great Carol evening at St Mary's Green by the Heritage Centre. St Mary's school choir will be singing some carols and St Mary's church will also be in attendance. At 7pm following the carols there will be refreshments served in the Heritage Centre courtesy of Yate Twinning Association. From 5pm there will be the opportunuity to visit the Church to see the Christmas tree festival.

2018 St George Celebrations

Yate Heritage Centre once again stages the biggest St George Celebrations in South Gloucestershire. There will be a host of traditional English entertainment including a wind band, folk music, Morris Dancing, ukeleles, acrobatics and school choirs. There will be more Medieval history than ever before with Medieval food, armour and archery demonstrations plus activities, community stalls and St George food. St Mary's Church and the White Lion will also be providing refreshments during the day. Free event. Everyone welcome.

Yate International Festival

Yate Heritage Centre is proud to stage the 2018 Yate International Festival offering the only such event in South Gloucestershire. There will be an array of European, English, Asian and African cultural entertainment and presentations. Funded by South Gloucestershire, Yate, Dodington and Westerleigh Councils.

First World War Armistice Day

Yate Heritage Centre stages a fitting Armistice day with a host of First World War demonstrators, activities, games, stalls, exhibitions and entertainment from the time.  Visitors will be able to meet demonstrators on St Mary's Green by the Heritage Centre representing both British and German military warfare, local WWI industry, a WWI ambulance, and retail life during WWI. there will be a special Armistice and Aftermath  exhibition inside the Heritage Centre. There will be history stalls in St Mary's church and entertainment in St Mary's church and Yate Heritage Centre throughout the day.

Yate Heritage Centre  - First World War storytelling 12.30, 1.45pm and 3pm.

St Mary's Church : - 12am WWI afternoon choir (WWI medley), 12.45 Golden Tones (RBL Women, WWI Medley), 1.30pm Thornbury Brass Band (Edwardian and WWI Medley), 2.15pm Golden Tones and 3pm Thornbury Brass Band. 

This will be the start of a series of events running up to the Armistice on Sunday 11th of November.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and South Glos and Yate Town Councils.

Tommy Atkins and the Canary Girl

Renowned theatre company Spaniel in the Works present their Tommy Atkins and the Canary girl, a play on the history of one Gloucestershire family during the First World War. The performance takes place at St Nicholas Family Centre and Church, Yate. Suitable for families and people upwards of 10 years old. Free admission with donations going to the Royal British Legion. Refreshments available. Tickets available from Yate & District Heritage Centre.

Music Hall Extravaganza

As part of the Centenary of the end of the First World War, Same Same theatre's Bertrand Xavier and Ruby Moodwarmer present a wonderful matinee of early 20th century music hall entertainment similar to that experienced by those living during the Great War. There will be numerous jokes, singing and dance to delight people of all ages. The performance takes place at the Armadillo, Yate. Tickets from Yate Heritage Centre. Free admission with donations going to the Royal British Legion. Refreshments available in the half time break.
