Using his recent research on the history of folk songs in the south Gloucestershire area, Phil takes us on a journey of discovery on how these songs have developed, and plays some of these songs. Yate Heritage Centre hosts its first full history event since 2019. Our Roman history event Here Come the Romans will feature Roman military demonstrations with military drill sessions plus a Roman surgeon plus activity stalls where you make tiles, roman mosaics and mint Roman coins. There will be Roman storytelling and you can discover what Romans did around Yate. Admission free, drop in event. Funded by Yate Town Council and YHC Trust. Military drill on the green on the hour 12pm onwards with last drill at 3pm.

Our walk covers the upper High Street, Brook Street, River Frome and area before returning to the High Street. Admission free but donations are welcome.

Join us in a walking tour of North Road and Engine Common. Starting at the Fox pub we cover the history of North Road as a mining community and how it evolved in the 20th century. The walk continues across the field past the Yate no2 Colliery site to join the Yate Colliery dramway following the route to no1 colliery before returning to the Fox. Booking essential. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

A wonderful Christmas treat is in store for local residents at Yate Heritage and on St Mary's Green. At 6pm come along for Christmas Carols on the green with St Mary's School choir. Following the carol singing there will be wassailing and further singing and mulled cider within the Heritage Centre from 6.45pm with Phil Owen of the Home from Home team. A perfect Christmas evening. Free event.

The 2023 St George Celebrations will be as big and entertaining as ever. The whole community is welcome to attend and enjoy this community and history event. Old favourites such as Rag Morris, Thornbury Town Band and Brigstowes Folk will be on hand alongside St George himself to provide the necessary entertainment. Historic entertainment courtesy of the Bristol Waites and the Ineptitudors will perform along with talented local youth group and the U3A youth group.
