Birdlip Prehistoric Graves

Malcolm Watkins will explore the burial grounds at Birdlip in Gloucestershire where the remains of three female skeletons and grave goods were found, one of which some scholars believe may be the remains of Boudicca, a queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe.

Archaeology Finds Day Cancelled)

Visitors are welcome to bring in their recent archaeological finds, artefacts or unusual objects from home for the experts from the  Portable Antiquities Scheme to identify. The event is led by the Portable Antiquities Scheme at Yate & district Heritage Centre.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary programme run by the UK Government to record increasing numbers of small finds  of archaeological interest found by members of the public.

Archaeology Lecture - Halloween Archaeology (Zoom Meeting)

The second archaeology group online lecture is entitled "The case for preserving the dead - Prehistoric and Early Medieval Mummies in Scotland". David Etheridge of Bristol University examines excavations of mummified remains in northern Scotland the issues surrounding their display. Images of human remainswill feature in the display.
