Yate & District Heritage Centre aspires to provide an excellent public service for the local community and this is achieved through a range of thought provoking and varied exhibitions.
All parts of the community can be involved in generating historical information at the Yate Heritage Centre. The displays in the centre's gallery aim to reflect the rich diversity of the area’s cultural, historical, social and industrial past.
Stimulating Exhibitions & Events
Since 2000, the Heritage Centre produces exhibitions and events that regularly change; these are stimulating, accessible and aim to involve the community.
Yate Heritage Centre also works in conjunction with local groups who exhibit fine art, crafts, fashion, photography and local history. The centre provides a diversity of evening and day events throughout the year and this includes; regular series of quizzes, historical lectures and other one off events.
Important Collections
The Heritage Centre aims to produce exhibitions, which are inspiring and cultivate a sense of pride in local people. At present, the Centre contains the two major local history collections in the area, the Yate Heritage Collection and the Yate District Oral History Collection. These are both available to the public on open days and through appointment.
There are over 3,000 objects in the Centre’s collections acquired since the mid 1990s. They include:- oral history, historic 3D objects, maps, photographs and documents, as well as an educational handling collection.
The Centre also houses the Oral History Project Group's collection of photographs, tapes, documents and of course oral history, amounting to 4,000 items in the Centre.
