Archaeology Finds Day

The Archaeology Finds Day is a great opportunity for anyone with their own bit of history to bring it along for identification. If you have any archaeological artefacts or something more modern, then we will attempt to identify it for you.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme based at both Bristol and Gloucester Museums will be providing the expertise and awaiting your objects.

St George Celebrations 2010

St Georges Celebrations 2010 at Yate & District Heritage Centre, St Mary's Church, the White Lion & St Mary's School. 

Following a civic procession starting at 10.15am, there will be Folk Singers & Musicians, Morris Dancing, Mumming, Storytelling, Brass Band, Demonstrations, St George Rugby Tournament, Art & Sport Awards, Craft Workshops, Games, Petanque, Face Painting, Stalls, Food & much more! 

Funded by Yate Town Council, Dodington Parish Council & Wickwar Parish Council.

Parnall Bombing 70th Anniversary Day

Yate Heritage Centre marks the 70th Anniversary of the bombing of Parnall Aircraft.

There will be a history day where families can learn about the history of the auxiliary and medical services and how they would have coped with the bombing tragedy.

There will also be a service of recognition at St Mary's Church to mark the passing of the 54 civilians who died on the 27th of February and 7th of March 1941

Archaeology Finds Day

The Archaeology Finds Day invites the public to bring in their historic finds and possessions to be identified by Kurt Adams of the Gloucestershire Portable Antiquities Scheme.

As well as discovering about your finds, people are welcome to discover more about their local archaeology and how to get involved in local recording.

Victorian School Day

Discover life in a Victorian School in the 1890s. The one hour "hands on" sessions will give children the opportunity to learn about discipline and morality in the class. There will be Victorian writing lessons, reading, singing, religious instruction and  military drill.    

Sessions will take place at 10am, 11am, 2pm & 3pm. 

We recommend contacting us to book before places run out.

Yate International Festival

The 6th Yate International Festival offers a full day of entertainment for everyone. The International entertainment includes: - Indian drum music and salsa, Chinese choral music, dancing and Tai Chi, Irish dancing, Egyptian Belly Dancing as well as English and general harmony music. Local performers and schools will also be providing a range of dancing, acrobatics and singing. There will be lots to do notably Chinese Calligraphy, Indian Games and Culture and a mosaic workshop. during the lunch period there will be a selection of Indian, Thai and Chinese food.

Animal & Food Day 2011

Animal & Food Celebrations with Food demonstration & barbecue, farm animals (Blacksmith) craft stalls, wood cutting, face painting.  There will be a brass band & other performances ever hour on the hour. Tours of St Mary's church & teas & much more!!
